  •   AVID Tutoring

    •  This is a tutoring program for the high school in Waukegan.  They need tutors to come help sophomore and junior students on Mon., Wed., and Fri. between 12:45 pm- 1:20 or 12:00pm-1:30pm at the Upper Grade Center.  The tutors will be trained and some things they will do is to facilitate the students' learning (help teach the student how to think and arrive at the answer themselves), evaluating students' binders (make sure they're organized), and to help run tutorials and evaluate how the students do on them.  The school may also pay you for tutoring at $12/hr.  If you can't make it these hours you can help chaperone some of the field trips or you can help with fundraising for the trips, help organize a luncheon for students to come to LFC, or do a Big Brother or Big Sister sort of the thing.

  • Holy Family Parish

    • This is the main immigrant parish in Waukegan and it's predominantly Mexican.  They offer a vast array of social programs, citizenship classes, counseling for immigration, ESL courses, and they are the primary social service institution for undocumented immigrants in the area.  They also have a Boys and Girls club that needs tutors so if you can't volunteer for the AVID tutoring you may be able to help out with this one.

  • Lake County United

    • Works with nonprofit organizations to build community power.  The LCU focuses on identifying and rectifying community problems.  Their latest cause is the underachievement of Latinos in Waukegan.  Another problem they are focusing on is the poor emergency healthcare in Waukegan area.  Training is involved.

  • Thank you to everyone who donated to the Dress an Angel Project!
